Cartography and Graphics

SMGC’s clients receive reports and presentations in a hard copy format or as an electronic document (PDF).  High standard graphics and plans are used to complement the work SMGC’s professional staff produce in-house using industry standard software.

As well as producing report documentation, SMGC’s professional staff use CAD software for engineering support, as the software enables accurate calculations for landform designs and proposed mining methods. This work is enhanced because data is able to be transferred with ease between Surpac/Minex and the CAD packages SMGC utilise.

SMGC is proud of the high quality in-house production of its drafting and graphics presentations and reports.

The SMGC Cartographic Department uses the following software programs:

AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008

This program provides vital information in the form of high quality CAD graphics.

An extension of current version of AutoCAD, this platform provides the latest drafting tools, digital terrain modelling, surface contouring, thematic mapping, photogrammatic data, and volumes and sections creation.

CorelDraw X3

This is a graphics-based software package that is used to create concept plans, to rectify photo images, and to prepare most of SMGC’s published materials.

Adobe Acrobat 8

This program reproduces CAD graphics and reports in an electronic format ready for distribution to clients and consultants.  The resulting files can be viewed using PDF viewers and also enables high quality hard copies to be made.

SMGC are able to produce large-scale hard copy plots in all of its offices, including detailed black and white and colour prints.
